Martin E. Hanaka became the Chairman of the Board in April 2007. Mr. Hanaka has served as Chairman Emeritus of the Board of The Sports Authority, Inc. since June 2004. Mr. Hanaka was the Chairman of the Board of the Sports Authority from November 1999 until June 2004 and was its Chief Executive Officer from September 1998 until August 2003. Mr. Hanaka joined the Sports Authority's Board of Directors in February 1998. Mr. Hanaka is also a director of Sports Authority and Brightstar Corporation, a wireless wholesale distributor.
Senior Vice President -- Marketing, Brand and New Business Development
Matthew Corey joined us in November 2004 as our Vice President — Marketing. Prior to joining us, Mr. Corey served as Vice President — Marketing and eCommerce for The Bombay Company from April 2002 until November 2004, senior manager of marketing and operations, business development strategy and partnerships for The Home Depot, Inc. from October 1999 until February 2002 and served as analyst and manager of marketing and advertising for BellSouth Corporation from May 1997 until October 1999.
Senior Vice President -- Human Resources and Guest Experience
Gillian Felix joined us in August 2006 as our Vice President – Human Resources. Prior to joining us Ms. Felix served as Vice President of Human Resources for Hoover's Inc. Previously she held various management roles for Virgin Retail in London.
Adrian Gonzalez
Vice President - Retail Growth & Development
Adrian Gonzalez is Golfsmith's Vice President, Retail Growth & Development. Mr. Gonzalez is responsible for the oversight of the company store portfolio, including current and future real estate. Mr. Gonzalez joined Golfsmith in 1998 and has held various retail management positions with the company over the decade, including VP – Store Administration, Director of Store Operations, Director of Strategic Initiatives, and various Regional field management positions. Prior to joining Golfsmith, Mr. Gonzalez held management positions with Six Flags Theme Parks..
Sue E. Gove
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Sue E. Gove has been an independent consultant since April 2006, serving clients in specialty retail and private equity. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of AutoZone, Inc. since 2005 and also serves on its audit committee and nominating and governance committee. She was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Zale Corporation from 2002 to March 2006 and a director of Zale Corporation from 2004 to 2006. She was Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of Zale Corporation from 1998 to 2002 and remained in the position of Chief Financial Officer until 2003.
Joseph J. Kester has served as our Vice President of Field Operations since October of 2006. Prior to that, Kester served as our Regional Manager for the Midwest from September 2003 until October 2006. From February 1998 to September 2003, Mr Kester served as our General Manager in our Minnetonk Minnesota location.
David Lowe
Vice President - Brands and Golf Instruction
David Lowe joined us in September 2004 and has been Vice President — Brands and Golf Instruction since May 2005. Mr. Lowe is responsible for proprietary brand development and management along with product strategy. From April 1997 to June 2004, Mr. Lowe was with Spalding Sports, most recently serving as Marketing Director for the Ben Hogan brand. From October 1985 to April 1997, Mr. Lowe held several management positions at Golfer's Warehouse, a regional golf specialty retailer in the U.S. northeast.
Dan Sawall
Senior Vice President
A 30-year retail veteran, Dan's career began in 1979 at Macy's where he spent four years before moving to Dillard's where he held various senior management roles in store operations and soft-lines merchandising. In 1998 Dan made the move to specialty retail joining Guess Inc. as general merchandise manager of retail operations, overseeing 92 stores. In 2000 Dan moved to Pacific Sunwear as vice president and general merchandise manager of merchandising, design and field operations where he oversaw 103 stores in addition to leading all merchandising efforts.
Bizunesh Scott
General Counsel and Secretary
Bizunesh "Biz" Scott joined us in October 2009 as our Interim General Counsel and Secretary. Prior to joining Golfsmith, Biz was Of Counsel at Patton Boggs LLP and also worked as an Associate at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP. Biz graduated from University of Michigan Law School and Marquette University.
Andrew Spratt
Vice President – Information Services
Andrew Spratt joined Golfsmith in October 2007 as the Vice President of Information Services. For the last four years, Mr. Spratt was an IT Management Consultant to British Petroleum. Prior to that Mr. Spratt served as Operations Director for Interliant UK, and previous to that he was Head of IT Operations within the Caudwell Group. Previous to these positions he held various management roles within Swissair's airline services business.
